With a cuisine that belies their location in Hong Kong’s erstwhile Little Shanghai – in the area around North Point and Quarry Bay – Tulsi Indian Restaurant on Hoi Kwong Street are flying the flag for India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Far East. Their philosophy is simple: a kitchen that takes the best available ingredients, combines them with the best spices and cooks them in the best possible, traditional Indian manner. Begin your meal with something from the tandoor – seekh kebab, for example, or paneer tikka – before moving onto a fiery favourite such as their chicken vindaloo or a veggie-friendly channa masala. You’ll need to take the train to Quarry Bay, or at a push Tai Koo, and then wander over the King’s Road onto Hoi Kwong Street and Tulsi Indian Restaurant. Book a table, too, as they have been known to get very busy.
The food was great, very well cooked and with just the right amount of spice. They coped well with a large group and the service was good. The prices were good too, although portions a little small.
the food is good. the staff and the boss are friendly. the prices are very reasonable. the place in general and the toilet are clean.
A little gem of a restaurant tucked away down an alley. A little cramped but that is typical in Hong Kong. The food is superb. Enough said!
