The happy hour at Pickled Pelican is about as happy as you can imagine, considering an hour here has been stretched to more than seven hours, from 11:30am until 7pm. This rather Laissez-faire interpretation of clock time makes absolute sense considering that this bar is located in Hong Kong’s southern coastal town of Stanley, right on Stanley Main Street looking out over the bay. Island time needs little encouragement, but fuelling up with international cuisine is recommended, if only for the good of the soul. Of particularly appropriate note is Pickled Pelican’s seafood, with sautéed black mussels going well with a pint of Hoegaarden of Kronenbourg, and British fish and chips matching up with a swift half of Tetley’s or Guinness. Plenty of wine, spirits, specialty cocktails, shakes and smoothies also go down a treat.
