More about the restaurant: Maya Cafe

Maya Cafe was born when Mina Mahtani and Tina Barrat put their heads together to figure out how to deliver healthier food options to the residents of Hong Kong’s Central. Drawing upon Tina’s background in French Moroccan cuisine, the pair decided on a cafe that would serve up what is widely regarded as some of the healthiest food in the world – Mediterranean, and in particular the cuisines of Greece, southern France, Italy, Spain, and the Mediterranean nations of the Middle East. Fully organic and vegetarian, and offering a number of raw food options, Maya’s Des Voeux Road premises is a focal point for seriously healthy eating in the city.

Thinking about making a Maya Cafe booking?

Hong Kong’s Maya Cafe is all about balance. A balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, unrefined cereals and olive oil, the kinds of dishes typical of the states whose shorelines share the Mediterranean. Daily-changing lentil dahls, soups, and salads keep things interesting down Des Voeux Road in lively Central, not to mention the quinoa, beets, cabbage and carrot salad which is ideal for health-conscious diners looking for an alkaline alternative. On top of these incredible vegetarian and vegan options, Maya is also at the vanguard of the raw food revolution, offering courgette pasta dishes, a well-stocked juice bar, and raw and vegan desserts.

Maya’s philosophy of balance also extends to the environment at their Des Voeux Road cafe. White-walled and hung with Turkish chandeliers, with the option of eating inside or out on the terrace. It’s one of the few places in Hong Kong where diners feel at home, and their Central premises exude the rustic charm of the Mediterranean kitchens that Mahtani and Barrat wish to emulate in the heart of the bustling metropolis. They’ve pulled off the balancing act with panache, and they can bring the Maya experience to your home, too, delivering freshly made and bespoke menus to your event for parties of anywhere between 2 and 200.
