Ivan the Kozak

As the first authentic Ukrainian and Russian restaurant in Hong Kong, Ivan The Kozak could be forgiven for buckling under a little bit of pressure, what with such high Eastern European standards to uphold. But it doesn’t do that. Far from that, in fact. Ivan The Kozak thrives as the only one of its kind in the city and the result is one of the most unique places to dine in the Central district. You’ll find Ivan The Kozak on Wyndham Street and it’s very worth a reservation if you want to try food (and many types of vodka) that may be completely new to you.

For Eastern European food and drink in Hong Kong, nowhere – and we mean literally nowhere – can compete with Central’s Ivan The Kozak. We’ll start with the drinks, and here on Wyndham Street you’ve got over 20 types of Russian vodka to choose from, as well as cool Austrian beers and Czech and Hungarian wines. You’re guaranteed to find the tipple that’s right for you and when you consider that Ivan The Kozak often has live music to boot and a frozen room built specifically for vodka drinkers, well, it’s pretty tough to go wrong.

But the food is likely why you’re here, and the Ukrainian and Russian fare available is, we’re quite sure, a welcome addition to Hong Kong’s foodscape. Signature dishes include roasted pig, Russian-style baked rabbit, Ukrainian-style dumplings with your choice of mincemeat, mushroom or potato and onions, as well as roasted venison or sea bass with pepper. As you can see, Ukrainian and Russian food is hearty and true with wonderfully bold flavours at every bite. Ivan The Kozak is a gem of Central but very much worth the trip from just about anywhere in Hong Kong.
