Chiu Ka offers proper dim sum dining in Kowloon City, though the prices you come across here at the Ching Long Shopping Centre may be a pleasant change from other top-notch dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong, particularly those around the business-crowd buzz of Central. That doesn’t mean, however, that the quality at Chiu Ka is any less than those establishments – in fact the opposite may be true. Chiu Ka go for authenticity and honesty over flashy presentation and stuffy service, so you know that the sticky roast duck, steamy fish head, puffy baozi and silky dumplings you order here are going to be done in the traditional way, and in most cases when it comes to Chinese dim sum that means the darn tasty way. If you’re hoping to dine with friends or family it’s a wise idea to reserve a table first, because Chiu Ka is a common spot for group celebrations and special occasions and can often be full.
