We guess its name and its fabulous coffee suggest otherwise, but Cafe Zense doesn’t seem to fit the bill as your average cafe. It feels more like a sophisticated European bistro, still casual but elegant and relaxed. Cool cane furniture, wooden boards and an airy indoor-outdoor seating area help create this vibe, but the food does so even more. From hearty paysan stews of pork, red wine and rosemary to thyme spring chicken, mushroom and pumpkin risotto and a colourful linguine with king prawn and pesto, the dishes served here inside Causeway Bay’s Yeung Lu Chi Commercial Building on Jaffe Road carry flavours to evoke more Marseille and Milan than Hong Kong. The only potential problem with dining at Cafe Zense is its popularity – it’s smart to book ahead, especially during lunch on working days.
Food is good but tofu cookie smoothie was too sweet . Staffs are nice however my table was at the hidden corner which is difficult to find any staff during our stay
For the price the food was alright. But the service was really all over the place. We asked for knives and expected them to be brought and put down at my friend's and my place (which should be normal). Instead I was handed the knives by the server in one hand extended inches away from me so that I was obliged to take them in my hand and distribute the knives myself. Dishes were served without respecting any normal order - my friend's main course came before his soup; my appetiser did come first but was joined by my main course before I finished the appetiser. At the end, we had a table full of unfinished dishes. The server also did not give us the changes after we paid the bill. It was a small sum and in normal circumstances would have been left as tips. But for the server to take it for granted and not to give us the changes was completely wrong. When we asked, we were given a surprised look. Despite the reasonable quality of the food, we didn't have a good dining experience at all.
