Dumfries in Scotland is known locally as the 'Queen of the South' and the historic market town carries its title well. Straddling the River Nith, it boasts plenty of visitor attractions, including the Greyfriars Church, and one of the oldest bridges in Scotland, which was built by Lady Devorgilla in the 12th century. Its most famous resident was Robert Bruce himself, and other notable residents have included author J.M. Barrie and David Coulthard, the F1 driver. With a big university campus and busy student population, this thriving town also has fantastic places to eat, with cafes, pubs, bars and Dumfries restaurants galore.
